First stop - Heavenly Cupcake in the Gaslamp Quarter, San Diego, CA. When I visited they told me that they'd only been open for about 18 months. It was such a cute little shop with comfortable seating. I was bummed that the store didn't offer fountain drinks, only bottled drinks and water even had to be purchased. Anyways, on to the important stuff.
My cupcake girl was extremely friendly and knowledgeable. She dared me to compare their cupcakes with those that I had tried elsewhere, and so I am. Cupcakes ran about $3 - an average price. Cupcakes were normal cupcake size - nothing out of the ordinary. I chose the Red Velvet with cream cheese icing. Red Velvet cake takes me back to my childhood, when my grandmother would make it for me for my birthday and so I compare most red velvet cakes to that of my grandma's. We're talking grandma here - she's hard to beat ya know.
Cupcake was moist and the icing not too sweet. Nothing that made me fall over in my seat with excitement. I'd go again I'm sure. The cupcake case had quite a few different flavors. I would of liked to have tried more if I'd had the time and the appetite.
Overall rating? 4 out of 5 stars. Ah well... the search continues.
